High School Basketball Game Raises Breast Cancer Awareness Event

VINTON (KWWL) -

Community members gathered at Vinton Shellsburg High School as the Vikings hosted Center Point Urbana Friday night. However, basketball was just a fraction of the night's festivities.

Residents organized a "Pink Out" game for breast cancer awareness. Hundreds of pink t-shirts were sold and adorned by fans. Players, coaches, and even the referees wore some sort of pink attire as well.

During the game, a silent auction took place where individuals could bid on pink warm-ups from each team.

All funds raised from the event went directly to the Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. Last year, events such as this one helped the hospital purchase a brand new mammography unit.
