Tow truck, tractor trailer crash near Janesville leaves 2 injured

Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a crash between a tow truck and a tractor-trailer just south of Janesville.

Chase Sudol, 24, of Nashua, was southbound on Highway 218 and slowing down in preparation to turn west onto Mt. Vernon Road when a southbound tractor-trailer hit the rear of his tow truck, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.

The collision caused the van Sudol was towing to separate from the tow truck, according to a press release.

The van ended up in the intersection of Highway 218 and Mt. Vernon Road, while the tow truck and the tractor-trailer ended up in the ditch at the southwest corner of the intersection, according to officials.

Both Sudol and his passenger -- David Oler, 55, of Cedar Falls, the van's owner -- were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jeffrey Hoffman, 38, of Bloomer, Wis., was uninjured.

Sudol was cited for failing to comply with safety regulations.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Janesville Police Department, the Janesville First Responders, the Cedar Falls Fire Department and Sartori Paramedics.
