Linn County residents can begin voting in the special election for the Linn County casino measure on Thursday.
Residents may vote in person at the Election Services Department of the Auditor's Office in the Linn County Public Service Center. The office is located at 935 2nd Street SW in Cedar Rapids. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Residents may also request an absentee ballot. The request form can be found by clicking here. The original, completed request form must be returned to the Linn County Auditor's Office by 5 p.m. on March 1.
The mailing address is:
Linn County Election Services PO Box 1328 Cedar Rapids, IA 52406-1328
Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Linn County Auditor's Office postmarked on or before March 4. This is also the last day to vote in person at the auditor's office.
The election will be held on March 5.
Voters will decide whether or not they want a casino to be placed somewhere in Linn County. An exact location has not been discussed publicly.
If the vote is successful, the group will then have to ask the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to lift a moratorium on new casino licenses in the state.
