DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A victory for Iowa democrats as State Representative District 52 was up for grabs in a special election Tuesday.

Democrat Brian Quirk of New Hampton won the November election for the House seat but resigned two weeks after the election.  He took a job as general manager of the New Hampton Municipal Light Plant.

Republican Dennis Litterer faced off with Democrat Todd Prichard in a bid to represent voters in Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw and Floyd Counties in the statehouse.

Prichard defeated Litterer with 55% of the nearly 5,500 votes to Litterer's 45%.
