UNI wrestlers rally to shock #13 Oklahoma 18-15

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

UNI won 5 of the final 6 matches Friday night to rally and shock #13 Oklahoma 18-15 in front of a large crowd in the West Gym.

Trailing 12-0 in the match, UNI 157 pounder DAvid Bonin provided the momentum change.  In a 3rd overtime period Bonin took down 15th ranked Matt Lester on the edge of the mat to walk off with a 5-3 victory.

Later, the Panthers Cody Caldwell earned 6 points with a victory by DQ at 174 pounds, while Ryan Loder and Blaize Cabell picked up back to back wins at 184 and 197 to tie up the match 15-15 going to the heavyweight bout.

In that match, UNI's Blayne Beale and Oklahoma's Keldrick Hall would enter the 3rd period tied at one apiece.  With one second remaining in the match, Beale picked up a takedown for a dramatic 3-1 win propelling the Panthers to one of the biggest wins in the Doug Schwab era.

The win moved UNI to 4-2 in dual meet action this season.
