Pauline Friedman Phillips, founder of the "Dear Abby" advice column has died. The Iowa native was 94 years old.
Pauline Friedman was born in Sioux City on Independence Day in 1918, and later attended Morningside College.
Her "Dear Abby" column first appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1956, writing under the name Abigail Van Buren.
She started sharing the byline with her daughter Jeanne Philipps in 2000, who took over full-time two years later.
Phillips died Wednesday in Minneapolis after suffering a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Phillips' column competed for decades with the advice of "Ann Landers," written by her twin sister Esther Friedman Lederer. Lederer died in 2002.
