CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls firefighters spent hours at a house in the North Cedar community on Wednesday night.

Fire Chief John Schilling said a fire broke out in the first floor of a house near the intersection of Center and Thomas Streets in Cedar Falls at about 8:20 p.m.

The man made it out safe, according to Schilling. He did not believe there were any pets inside at the time of the fire.

Schilling said when crews arrived, there were flames shooting out of the house.

As of 10:00 p.m., crews were still working on putting out hot spots.

Chief Schilling said there was an "unusual amount of content" like books and fishing poles were inside the home, making it difficult to maneuver inside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
