The Cedar Rapids Community School District announced on Monday that a snow make-up day scheduled for Jan. 21 will be moved to Feb. 18 instead.
School officials canceled classes on Dec. 20 due to a blizzard and then announced on Dec. 21 that the snow day would be made up on Jan. 21.
Superintendent Dr. Dave Benson announced on Monday that the snow day would instead be made up on Feb. 18. Jan. 21 will remain a professional development day for staff, and students will have the day off.
The Des Moines Public Schools voted last Thursday to move their make-up day from Jan. 21 to a day in June after an NAACP youth group collected hundreds of signatures on a petition against the decision.
Jan. 21 is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday.
The Cedar Rapids Community School District has not said if the holiday was a factor in their decision.
