Dozens of people in Dubuque took strides toward a healthier lifestyle Sunday. A walk-a-thon at Kennedy Mall promoted the "Let's Move!" national campaign, and the initiative to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.
Organizers hope the walk encourages people to incorporate fitness into their regular routine.
"We were noticing that in winter time, we don't do enough exercise, but we do have the sources to do it. One of those sources is Kennedy Mall. So in order to promote the health into the community, because we know we're gaining more and more weight, and not doing anything, is doing some exercise instead of being in house doing nothing. We thought a good idea is to start some movement in order to move Dubuque," said Rirett MacKenzie with In Step For Life.
People could also take advantage of health screenings and talk with nutrition experts. Organizers plan further health initiatives in the future, including an upcoming diabetes symposium.
