Iowa City families lace up skates at outdoor rink

Now that temperatures are back below freezing, many kids in Iowa City laced up their skates and hit the rink.  The Iowa City Downtown District had an outdoor ice rink set up for the weekend. The group said they wanted to offer families a fun weekend activity.

It's not actually made of ice but of synthetic materials. Skating is free and skates are available on site.

"We always like to have people coming downtown, and offering something a little bit different to do," said Nancy Bird, Iowa City Downtown District.

"It's fun," said Sophia Romerl.

"I like it," said Sophia's younger sister, Ella.

The rink is open until 10pm Saturday and will be open Sunday 12-5pm.  It's on Iowa Avenue between Dubuque and Linn streets.
