Waterloo police warn of apartment scam

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo police are warning residents of apartment scams that are being reported to them.

Captain Tim Pillack says that people should be suspicious when website advertisements offer apartments for rent at lower than normal rates.

Pillack says Waterloo police have recently received reports of people responding to these ads and paying a down payment, only to find the ad is bogus.

Police say you should always verify who are you are dealing with before making a payment.

Pillack also says, "If the rental price is too good, it is probably a scam!"
