WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Waterloo police say they have arrested a teen accused of assaulting an officer on New Year's Day.
Officers arrested 18-year-old Katario Cordon Jones of Waterloo early Wednesday morning.
Sergeant Matt McGeough says felony arrest warrants were issued for Jones after he was identified as the person who assaulted Officer Ed Savage in the early morning hours of January 1 during a large fight at Edo's Bar.
McGeough says Officer Savage was intentionally hit with a bar stool after walking into the bar while responding to the fights.
Officer Savage was treated at the hospital and released.
Sergeant McGeough says they couldn't identify who hit Officer savage with the bar stool at the time, but after watching surveillance video, they identified Jones as the suspect.
Jones is facing charges of assault on a peace officer causing injury, willful injury and rioting. He is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a $36,000 bond.
