Man arrested in connection with La Porte City burglaries

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says they have made an arrest in connection with several burglaries in the La Porte City area.

Captain Rick Abben says 43-year-old Gary Duane Goings of Altoona was arrested on Sunday after an investigation into several burglaries in the La Porte City area.

Abben says the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office was called in by the La Porte City Police Department on December 20 to help investigate burglaries at several storage facilities.  He says deputies also were called to a report of another burglary where a vehicle was stolen.

As the investigation has continued, Abben says the vehicle and other property taken during the burglaries has been recovered.  He says they also recovered evidence that led them to identifying Goings as a suspect.

Goings is charged with seven counts of third degree burglary, one count of second degree burglary, one count of possession of a firearm as a felon and one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owners consent.

Abben says Goings is also charged with failure to appear in a separate matter.

Goings is being in the Black Hawk County Jail on $55,000 cash or surety bond.
