The Cedar Rapids Police Department has arrested five teenagers following the recovery of four stolen vehicles and a stolen snowmobile.
Sergeant Cristy Hamblin says five teenagers were arrested for the robberies, including two 16-year- olds, a 17-year-old, and two 18-year-olds.
Hamblin says police received a report of a stolen truck from 2575 16th Avenue SW at 11:38 p.m. on January 3.
A few hours later, at 1:09 a.m. on January 4, officers on patrol in the area of 3108 Blackberry Circle SW spotted another pick-up truck that was reported stolen earlier in the evening from 60th Avenue SW. They also found a snowmobile in the bed of the truck that had been reported stolen separately from the truck.
Less than an hour later, at 1:55 a.m., Hamblin says officers saw a van that had been reported stolen by the Linn County Sheriff. It was parked at 60th Avenue and 26 Street SW, but no one was in it.
Hamblin says officers were called to 2719 O Avenue NW about 10 minutes later after getting a report of a smell of marijuana. She says officers determined this call was linked to the stolen vehicles.
The two 18-year-olds, Zackary McElroy and Michael Candler, are charged with disorderly house and three counts of second degree theft. The two 16-year-olds and the 17-year-old face the same charges.
