A new group aims to get more people moving in Waterloo.
The Blue Zones program has helped launched a walking group called "Walking Moai."
Monday was the first of many events at Young Arena to introduce people to the new program.
Teams of 5 to 6 people make the commitment to walk together at least once a week for ten weeks. The teams track their steps to compete for prizes.
Organizers say it helps promote friendship and a healthy lifestyle.
"We decided to start our MOAI launch here at Young Arena because there are over 500 people that come here on a daily basis to walk anyway," said Timi Brown, a volunteer with Blue Zones.
"We're just trying to inspire the community, and we knew that if we started with the people that are already inspired, and had them ask other people to come, we thought this was a great place to start," she added.
