Mitch Boevers: Athlete of the Week

Posted:
FAIRBANK (KWWL) -

Mitch Boevers of Wapsie Valley is living the dream of most high school athletes. This year as a senior quarterback, Boevers' hoisted the class 1A State Football Championship trophy, and through 7 games this basketball season he's averaging more than 20 points a game. As a two sport star, his skills don't stop on the court or field, he's the definition of a student athlete.

Wapsie Valley head coach Marty McKowen said, "My favorite part about Mitchell's game is his intelligence. He's got one B in his whole high school career which is an amazing thing, very intelligent player. That's probably my favorite thing about him, he's a point guard, he can play off guard, he claims he's a great low post player, but just his overall ability to see the game. "

Because the football team made it all the way to the dome, the basketball preseason was one of the shortest McKowen's seen in his 30 years of coaching at Wapsie Valley. But the recent success provides motivation to go the distance once more.

Boevers said, "The state championship in football was something I'll never forget and hope to do the same in basketball. And I went to state my freshman year in basketball and I still know what that feeling was like and I wanna have that feeling again this year."
