Oversold flights create travel headaches

The blizzard that dumped around a foot of snow in some places in Iowa continues to have an impact on travel as we approach Christmas Day.

At local airports, already jam-packed planes mean those whose flights were canceled due to the storm may have to wait even longer.

Planes are taking off on time at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids but many flights are oversold. Most airlines asked passengers to give up their seats in exchange for travel credits.

The overcrowding caused nightmares for standby travelers. Some arrived at the airport first thing this morning and are hoping to make it out by tonight.

"The next one I'm trying for looks good to get to Detroit, maybe, like I'm in line for four seats and I'm the first one in line," said Angela Despain.

Drivers aren't immune, either.  While roads and highways are open, many are still partially covered with ice.
