East alum Eckerman leads Longhorns to National Championship

Haley Eckerman never even made it to the state tournament as a stand-out at Waterloo East High School.  That, however, didn't stop the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year from leading the Texas Longhorns to their first National Championship since 1988.

Eckerman tallied 12 kills as Texas took down Oregon in straight sets by match scores of 25-11, 26-24, 25-19.  Teammate Bailey Webster added 14 in the victory.  The sweep by the Longhorns was their third out of their last four tournament matches.

A crowd of 16,448 fans attended the game, the second-largest for an NCAA tournament final
