Santa scuba dives at Dubuque's River Museum

Jolly old Saint Nick took a dip Saturday afternoon at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque.

Crowds gathered to watch Santa, decked out in his full red suit, scuba dive with fish native to the Mississippi River.

Kris Kringle split his time between cleaning the aquarium glass and posing for photos.

Museum guests were delighted and surprised to see Father Christmas in this underwater setting.

"You never thought that Santa would be scuba diving," 10-year-old Miah Portje of Dubuque said. "At first, I thought he'd be, like, in shorts or something, so it's kind of weird and funky that he's wearing his whole suit and everything, and all the kids are, like, amazed."

Santa was a little chilly this week. He went scuba diving at the museum last Saturday, too, but in the Gulf of Mexico tank. However, new species in that aquarium this week meant Saint Nick had to dive in the colder waters of the Mississippi River exhibit.

That's probably nothing, though, compared to the temperatures at the North Pole.
