DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The Hawkeyes started hot and held the lead the rest of the way taking down UNI 80-73 in the opening game of the first annual Big Four Classic.

The Panthers only lead of the game came in the early moments of the game on an inside bucket from Seth Tuttle.  Iowa soon took over hitting their first 5 three pointers in the game.  The Hawks hit 9 total threes in the first half with four coming from freshman guard Mike Gessell.  Iowa would hold a 40-32 lead after the first half.  UNI would never get any closer four behind during the final half.  Iowa finished the game hitting 12 three pointers.

Devyn Marble led the way for the Hawks with a 30 point performance.  Gessell added 23 including hit 4 of 6 shots from beyond the arc.  Deion Mitchell led UNI with 23 points.
