WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Hundreds of wrestling fans are in the Cedar Valley this weekend for the "Battle of Waterloo" wrestling tournament.
The tournament brings in 32 teams from across the state to Young Arena.
The Waterloo Conventions and Visitors Bureau says the economic impact is significant. They say this weekend will bring between $250 to $500 thousand dollars to the area.
This year they decided to collect zip codes of everyone who attends to get a better feel of where people are traveling from.
"We give grant money to the schools to put the event on and then it also helps the sports commission because they are applying for grant money to the state. And they want to know a better sense of what the economic impact is. We want to know how many people are coming from Waterloo, from Black Hawk County, and then from outside the county as well," said Aaron Buzza, Waterloo Conventions and Visitors Bureau Executive Director.
This is the third year for the tournament.
