The Linn County Sheriff's say 44-year-old Edward Cusic -- who faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly killing his mother, 68-year-old Anita Labkon -- was rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids on Thursday afternoon with self-inflicted injuries to his neck.
Lieutenant Kent Steenblock says deputies found Cusic in the shower at around 2:43 p.m. Thursday.
He was treated for his injuries and then returned to the jail.
On Dec. 7 around 11 p.m., Cedar Rapids Police were called to the home on the 600 block of Old Marion Rd. NE for reports of a disturbance.
When they arrived, officers say Labkon was dead from "blunt force trauma." They arrested her son, Cusic, on the scene.
