CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
A Cedar Rapids toddler's death may be attributed to more than one abusive incident.
A child abuse expert testified Wednesday that Kamryn, who was 18 months old when she died, suffered inflicted head trauma from at least two incidents -- one happening between one to two weeks before Kamryn was ever rushed to the hospital.
"The person injuring the child must have been aware that the child's symptoms had something to do with what had happened to the child's head," said Resmiye Oral, the director of the University of Iowa's Child Protection Unit.
"Not seeking proper medical care for that condition was medical neglect, which might have contributed to the final outcome," Oral added.
Oral went on to testify that Kamryn suffered a final inflicted trauma up to six hours before police were called on March 21, 2010.
Zyriah Schlitter is on trial for first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of his daughter, Kamryn.
Schlitter's ex-girlfriend, Amy Parmer, faces the same charges and will go on trial next month.
The defense argues only Parmer was with Kamryn when she sustained her final injuries.
