WATERLOO (KWWL) -
This week marks the busiest time of year at FedEx.
The company forecasted a record high of 280 million shipments moving through the global FedEx networks during the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Drivers like Adam Beckman are busy. Beckman has been driving Waterloo routes for FedEx for nine years. His dad and sister also run routes in Waterloo.
"I enjoy coming into work everyday," he said.
Beckman said days go fast this time of year because of the influx in deliveries.
"There's a lot of Christmas presents," he said. "That seems to be the majority of it, but along with that is the everyday freight that we carry, too. So there's definitely an increase in volume this time of year."
Beckman said organization is key when it comes to managing his 10-hour long workdays and ensuring his customer's deliveries make it to their doorsteps on time.
"It seems simple delivering boxes all day, but it's a lot more different than I had initially imagined," he said.
Beckman said he tries to get into work as early as possible to organize his truck. He has a designated shelf for each box, depending on the address of where it will be delivered.
"It's not necessarily the same beaten path everyday because it's a pretty large area, so I'm going to different houses everyday," he said. "But I have a pretty good idea of the order that I'm going to run my route in."
FedEx Ground recommends holiday packages be shipped no later than Dec. 17 to guarantee delivery with FedEx Ground by Christmas.
After that, premium FedEx Express delivery service will be required, with a last day to ship of Dec. 22.
