CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
An Eastern Iowa artist is honoring the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Saturday, Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett and Police Chief Wayne Jerman unveiled a new painting that will be hung at the police department.
The painting was done by Santiago Sanchez and shows the seven current police K9's. Prints are available for purchase for $25. Money raised will help fund the K9 unit. Three dogs are expected to retire in the next three years.
"Police K9s cost between $10-12,000," said Casey Bilden, K9 Handler. "So we're just trying to rally the community, not only for support but for donations to help keep our program going."
Prints will be available at the Fiesta Del Sol restaurant in Cedar Rapids Sunday from 1-5 p.m. You can also buy one at the police station.
