PREVIOUS: Daycare providers testify in Zyriah Schlitter murder trial

Testimony continued Friday in the Zyriah Schlitter first degree murder trial in Linn County.

Schlitter of Cedar Rapids is accused of first degree murder and child endangerment in the 2010 death of his 18 month old daughter Kamryn.

Schlitter's ex-girlfriend, Amy Parmer, faces the same charges and is scheduled to go on trial in January.

Friday, multiple witnesses gave testimony regarding explanations they received as to the origin of bruises that began to show up on Kamryn's face in the final three weeks of her life while under her father Zyriah's care.

Daycare providers testified they were concerned about the bruising that showed up in her second week there.

The daycare workers were told by Amy Parmer, who was dating Zyriah at the time, that Kamryn had tripped and fell, and that a playpen in the closet had fallen on her head.  They thought that was a reasonable explanation at the time.

A week later, Kamryn's daycare teacher noticed the injuries worsened and contacted the Department of Human Services.

"There was what we thought was a new bruise on top of the old bruise, and then the markings on her cheeks and lips, and then the look in her eyes, it was just heartbreaking," said Andrea Mcaleer, Kamryn's lead teacher at the daycare she attended in Marion in March 2010.

One of Kamryn's daycare supervisors asked Zyriah about the bruises back in March 2010.  She testified that he said matter of factly that Kamryn liked to beat herself up.
