CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
The Iowa Board of Regents has voted unanimously to demolish the former Malcolm Price Laboratory School.
This decision was made even though a lawsuit is pending over whether the Regents had the authority to close the school.
The Regents say they sought the advice of the Iowa Attorney General before voting Wednesday to demolish the building.
A spokesperson for the University of Northern Iowa said the decision by the Board allows them to move forward.
UNI will spend $500,000 to demolish the building.
Malcolm Price Laboratory School was built in 1953, with additions over the years.
The Regents also approved an in-state tuition freeze at all three Iowa universities. UNI's spokesperson said that will require a 2.6% funding increase from the state legislature.
