Wapsie Valley voters approve, Center Point-Urbana voters reject - KWWL.com

Wapsie Valley voters overwhelmingly approved a physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) Tuesday.

The PPEL needed just a simple majority, but received 57.2 percent approval. Three hundred and fifty-one Wapsie voters cast ballots. Two hundred and one of them voted in favor of the PPEL.

Voters in the Center Point-Urbana Community School District, on the other hand, soundly rejected a $9.8 million bond referendum for Phase 2 of the new C-P-U High School.

The referendum got just 47.15 percent approval with 438 votes, while 52.85 percent of the voters -- 491 of them -- in the C-P-U School District voted against the referendum. It needed 60 percent for passage.

The proposal would have completed Phase 2 of the new C-P-U High School, adding a building with an industrial arts classroom, an auditorium, storage facilities, an additional locker room, a wrestling and fitness room and gymnasium.

Voter turnout was just 21.6 percent, with 929 total votes cast. There were 4,283 eligible voters.
