Markers and glitter are the perfect card making tools for Ava Folkerts of Waverly.
"She just came up to me one day and said I just want to help people. So she wanted ideas of what she could do, and one day it just dawned on me how much she likes art. She draws on everything. So I thought why not kill two birds with one stone," said Mom Christie Folkerts.
Ava said she liked her mom's idea of making cards for charity.
"Because I have a lot of art stuff, and I like to draw," she said.
Right now Ava is making a lot of holiday cards, but she's also made thank you cards and get well cards. There's no specific cost for a card, just a free will donation.
All the money Ava raises goes back to local charities. Most recently she bought $125 worth of food for the food bank location in Waverly.
"What's your favorite part of making the cards? You can do your own designs," said Ava Folkerts.
Ava can take special requests for card designs, but most people leave that part up to her. She has lots of ideas from snowmen to snowflakes to Santa hats.
Ava's mom said her daughter has always had a generous heart.
"She's friendly and loving and caring and always wanting to help people, so it didn't really surprise me. I was very proud, but it didn't really surprise me," said Christie Folkerts.
Even though she's only nine. Ava thinks her future career will involve design. She's off to a great start with these homemade cards for charity.
