MARION (KWWL) -

Back in September, we took you to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Marion where an 84-year-old pipe organ was getting installed.

The ten ton organ was originally at a Lutheran church in the Bronx in New York. From there, it spent 18 months in Chicago getting restored before being placed in it's new home in Marion.

Now the organ is up and running and you're invited to hear it for yourself at a special concert Sunday afternoon.

Barb Ritchie became the organist at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Marion 28 years ago. She has a degree in organ performance from the University of Iowa.

She watched closely as a crew of 14 installed this 84-year-old Skinner Organ. Since then she's been learning the ins and outs of the ten ton musical instrument.

"It has a totally different sound from the other instrument, people enjoy it. Lots of positive feedback so far," said Barb Ritchie.

On Sunday, Barb is one of many musicians participating in a Christmas in Faith Concert at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

The concert is a kick off to the Advent and Christmas season.

"It's our way of starting to share this magnificent instrument with the church and with the community," said Ritchie.

The concert is at 3 p.m. It's free and open to the public.

Besides the organ, the concert will feature a harp, flute, trumpet and a bell choir.

"You'll hear everything from Bach to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Silent Night, Joy to the World. A lot of familiar ones and the congregation will get a chance to sing also," said Barbara Ritchie.

Ritchie hopes people in the community come to the concert Sunday afternoon to celebrate the 84-year-old organ and celebrate the joy of the holiday season.
