Waterloo beats Dubuque 3-0 in battle of USHL Leaders

Cal Petersen turned away the Dubuque Fighting Saints Friday, making 26
saves in a 3-0 Waterloo Black Hawks victory at Young Arena.

The only goal in a seesaw first period was scored off a three-on-two rush
after a turnover in the neutral zone.  Coming up right wing, Vince
Hinostroza centered a pass for Ryan Papa, who redirected it past the right
leg of Arthur Brey at 9:58.

The same line was responsible for the only goal in the second.  After the
Hawks were stranded in their own zone for a long shift, they were finally
able to make a change, setting up an odd-man rush.  Papa had an
opportunity knocked away, but Hinostroza swooped from behind the goal to
find the loose puck in the slot, and with time, snapped a shot under the
crossbar at 13:01.  Just before the goal, Petersen turned away a terrific
Dubuque chance at the other end of the rink with a left pad save.

Petersen continued to play well in the third, stopping all nine Dubuque
chances, as Waterloo managed only four.  One of those was pushed into the
open goal by Hinostroza with 37 seconds remaining.

On Saturday, the Black Hawks remain on home ice for the second of
four-in-a-row at Young Arena.  The Chicago Steel visit for a 7:05 matchup.
