Iowa State rallies to beat IPFW in five sets in NCAA Tournament

The Iowa State Volleyball team had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to beat Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne in a first round NCAA Volleyball Tournament at Hilton Colisium in Ames. The Cyclones advance to the second round where they will play North Carolina Friday night at 7.

Iowa State won the first set easily 25-11, but IPFW rallied to take the next two sets, 25-23, 25-22.  The Cyclones responded by winning the next two sets 25-12, 15-7 to advance to the round of 32. Jamie Straube led Iowa State with 16 kills, Victoria Hurtt had 12 kills while both Tensisha Matlock and Andie Malloy had 11 kills a piece.  Allison Landwehr had 56 assists and 5 kills for the Cyclones which won their 11 match in a row.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
