Accused bank robber William Clayton appears in court

One of the men accused of robbing a bank in Maynard and shooting two law officers during the getaway was in Bremer County court Monday.

William Clayton faces six counts of aiding and abetting and five counts of terrorism.

The other man, Jeremiah Mumford, also accused in the robbery and shooting, did not appear in court.

Mumford faces six counts of attempted murder and five counts of terrorism. He entered a written arraignment pleading not guilty.

Police say Clayton and Mumford led several law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase after an armed robbery in Maynard.

Sumner Police Chief Dennis Cain was one of many law enforcement officers trying to catch Clayton and Mumford after they allegedly robbed a bank in Maynard.

Cain was shot in the neck, hand and finger. The mayor of Sumner says Cain's recovery is going very well, and that Cain has been home recovering.

Funds are set up at First State Bank and Northeast Security Bank in Sumner to help Cain and his family with medical expenses.
