No winners in Powerball jackpot

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Saturday's Powerball drawing was the fourth largest in the game's 20-year history.  There were no winners so the jackpot will roll over to an estimated $425 million

Odds of winning the jackpot are less than one in 175-million.

Iowans swamped stores to buy tickets for Saturday's drawing.

Sean Freeman is using his birthday-and his daughter's-as his numbers.

"I need the money," said Freeman of Cedar Rapids.  "I want the house paid off. I want to live nice. Give the church some money-kids."

This year Powerball tickets doubled in price.

The two dollar fee means bigger jackpots.

For employees at Guppy's on the Go on Ellis Boulevard, it meant more customers buying tickets.

"When the amount of earnings that you can possibly get out of the winning tickets gets a little higher then you have more people coming in off the streets to buy them, I believe so," said Shawn Behrends, store clerk.

It's been a big year for Iowans playing the Powerball. Back in September there was a $202 million winning ticket sold in Bondurant. At the Edgewood Road HyVee back in June the Quaker Oats "Shipping 20" bought their $241 million winner.

Shoppers at the store Saturday were hoping lightning would strike twice.

"There's four kids and myself that will split it," said Bill Ellis of Cedar Rapids.

"I like to spend money and anybody can win," said Dianne Pickens of Cedar Rapids.

The last time there were three Powerball winners in one state was Pennsylvania in 2008.
