DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
An annual Thanksgiving Morning tradition in Dubuque saw record-breaking numbers this year.
The 40th annual Turkey Trot had 2,193 people register for the run, compared to last year's 1,700 participants.
This family-friendly event benefits Wahlert Catholic High School's cross country and track and field programs. Organizers said they likely raised more than $15,000 for the teams.
Turkey Trot participants such as Jane Northrup, a teacher at Mazzuchelli Middle School, said between the nice weather and the turnout, it was a perfect morning.
"I think it kind of shows you what Dubuque is like," Northrup said. "It's small town, cooperation, support of one another and just getting out and having a good time doing what we love."
Runners chose either a 2.5-mile or 7.5-mile course. Winners in each age division won a frozen turkey.
