Downtown Waterloo Rotary donates coats to 800 kids

Hundreds of Waterloo kids will now be able to stay warm this winter.  For the third year, the Downtown Rotary Club is continuing its tradition through "Operation Warm".

More than 800 students in Waterloo schools are getting new coats.  Volunteers are thrilled to see how excited the children get to receive the jackets.

"When they get their coat, some of them say, 'I've never had a new coat before,' or 'My old one is really dirty.  I'm so glad, and I outgrew it.'  So we get to see them, and they kind of bounce around a little off the wall after they get it!  So it's great, just absolutely great.  You know, the giver always gets more than the recipient I think," said Liz Thorpe, Rotary volunteer.

The Waterloo Community School District is still collecting new and gently used coats for all students in the district.  You can drop off donations at the Education Service Center, 1516 Washington Street in Waterloo.
