Boys and Girls Club celebrates Thanksgiving early, serves 200 people

More than 200 people enjoyed an early Thanksgiving feast at the Boys and Girls Club in Waterloo on Wednesday.

Club families from all four sites - Waterloo, Evansdale, North Cedar and Dunkerton - were all invited to attend the annual celebration.

Executive Director Chuck Rowe said events like this are valuable for kids to learn basic table manners and what it's like to eat dinner as a family.

"The kids love it because they get a ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and then the favorite is the pie of course," said Rowe.

"It's just tons of fun just seeing the kids have a nice healthy meal together."

The Thanksgiving feast was made possible through a collaborative effort with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Prairie Lakes Church and Nazareth Lutheran Church along with multiple volunteers.
