LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -
Heavy fog is being blamed for a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 30 Tuesday evening.
The Iowa State Patrol says 51-year-old Michael young of Brooklyn was driving a pick-up pulling a trailer full of black dirt and was crossing Highway 30 at the Benton County-Linn County border just before 6:00 p.m. when the trailer was hit by a van.
The collision caused to the trailer to separate from the pick-up and the trailer, which came to rest on Highway 30, was hit by another pick-up, driven by 28-year-old Jeremy Lee Payne of Belle Plaine. Troopers say that pick-up then hit another vehicle.
A fifth vehicle also hit the trailer and some debris in the roadway.
The driver of the van, 52-year-old Nicholas Kvidera of Traer was injured and taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Another person, 31-year-old Corey Lindeman of Vinton was also injured and taken to St. Luke's Hospital. Troopers have not said which vehicle Lindeman was in.
Nine miles of Highway 30 westbound traffic had to be re-routed while the accident was cleaned up and investigated.
