Fund set up for Waterloo man shot by police

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating the death of 22-year old Derrick Ambrose, Jr.

Investigators said Ambrose pointed a gun at a crowd of people and then led Waterloo police officers on a chase.

That chase ended after Ambrose was shot in the head early Sunday morning, according to a report released by the DCI.

On Tuesday, friends and family members held a fundraiser for Ambrose's family at Payne Memorial AME Church in Waterloo.

The family requested privacy and would not talk to KWWL on Tuesday, stating their lawyer has advised them to do so.

A memorial fund has been set up at Veridian Credit Union. Donations can be made to the family by using account number: 7075810.

Funeral services for Ambrose were pending at Sanders Funeral Services on Tuesday night.
