Cedar Rapids police want public help in shots fired cases

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is reporting a higher number of shots fired calls this year-and wants the public's help to solve the cases.

So far this year the department has received 59 confirmed reports of shots fired.

That's up from 44 last year.

Police have only arrested people in nine cases.

"One of our biggest fears is that some totally innocent bystander is going to be struck," said Cristy Hamblin, Cedar Rapids Police Sergeant.  "The people that have been hit, that's too many."

The department asks anyone with information to call 1-800-CS-CRIME or send a text to CRIMES.
