IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Central Michigan put up a fight, but in the end Iowa moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 73-61 victory.

The two teams traded blows early on, but the Hawks' Anthony Clemons 3 pointer at the end of the first half gave Iowa a 29-26 lead at half.  They would finally take the lead for good when freshman Mike Gessell drilled a 3-pointer while drawing a foul for a 37-34 lead just over 3 minutes in to the second half.  That play would start off a 20-6 Iowa run.

Devyn Marble led the attack with an 18 point performance .  Freshman point guard Mike Gessell added 15 with 3 of 6 shooting from long range.  Gessell also dished out 5 assists in the Hawkeye victory.
