Dike-New Hartford wins epic 5 game state final over Western Christian

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Number one Dike-New Hartford's perfect season looked like it was about to end with a sweep by second ranked Western Christian.  Then something clicked as the Wolverines rallied from a 2 sets to none deficit to win the final 3 to capture the 9th team championship in school history.

Western Christian stormed out of the gate, dominating the first to sets winning both 25-18.  Dike-New Hartford rallied for a 25-18 win in the third.  The Wolverines made things interesting in the 4th, losing a 24-20 lead as the Wolfpack rallied to tie the game at 24 apiece.  DNH countered scoring 3 of the final four points for a 27-25 win.

That set up a classic game 5.  Western Christian looked as though they'd recover to win taking a late 13-10 edge.  Dike-New Hartford again rallied behind the power of Briana Weber, and with DNH leading a Western Christian attack went long giving the Wolverines a huge victory.

All-tournament captain Briana Weber had 22 kills and 15 digs while Brooke Morgan added 17.  Western Christian's Brooke Wolterstorff knocked down 17 kills in the match.

Dike-New Hartford ends the season as the only team in any class to finish undefeated at 45-0.
