Dysart man charged with having a pipe bomb

A burglary investigation led to a Dysart man's arrest and the Waterloo bomb squad being called in to detonate a small pipe bomb.

It all started around 5:45 a.m. Saturday in the 5300 block of Lafayette Rd. in Elk Run Heights.

Black Hawk Co. Sheriff's deputies say 39-year-old David Risse and another man were trying to steal a lawn mower.

The other man got away but officers tracked down Risse after a chase.

They say Risse had meth, marijuana and a pipe bomb on him.

Waterloo's bomb squad detonated the pipe bomb safely while Risse was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail where he faces charges for meth possession, marijuana possession, burglary, theft, and possession of an incendiary device.
