1A State Volleyball: Grundy Center handles Janesville for 1A Title berth

Grundy Center advanced to the Class 1A championship match with a 25-21, 25-19, 26-28, 25-17 victory over Janesville Friday at the State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids.

The Spartans will face Tripoli or Holy Trinity Catholic at 6:00 p.m. Saturday in the 1A title match.

Samantha Meyers had 23 kills to lead the Spartans, who will enter the championship match with a 35-6 record. Teammate Stephanie Faust added 12 kills with five blocks and Heather Hook recorded 44 assists, four blocks and 17 digs.

Kendyl Sorge recorded 19 kills for Janesville while teammate Sylvia Amlie added 10. The Wildcats, who reached the state 1A semifinals for the third-straight year, finish their season at 32-9.
