CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids Convention Complex, which is currently under construction, has been selected as the site for two conferences -- one in 2014 and one in 2015.

The Iowa State Association of Counties will host their 2015 Fall School of Instruction at the convention center, bringing 800 people and an estimated $360,000 in direct spending to the area.

Cedar Rapids last hosted this event in 1993.

"Hosting this event in Cedar Rapids is an opportunity to showcase all of the progress we've made since 2008 to fellow Iowans," said Linn County Supervisor Lu Barron in a written statement. "Attendees are only a short drive away and are sure to find a reason to return after seeing firsthand the many wonderful entertainment opportunities near the Convention Complex such as the Paramount Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, the Museum of Art, the New Bo and Czech Village entertainment district and the many local restaurants and shops that Cedar Rapids has to offer."

The Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says the conference will fill the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel along with other hotels in the area.

The convention center will also host the 2014 International Association of Fire Chiefs conference.  This conference is estimated to bring 130 people and $33,500 in direct spending to the area.

"It is exciting to see the renewed interest meeting planners have in Cedar Rapids," said Vicki Henry, CRACVB director of convention sales, in a written statement. "Even more rewarding is booking large conventions like the Iowa State Association of Counties, knowing they will need multiple hotels to accommodate attendees."
