3A State Volleyball: Mt. Vernon makes the semifinals

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A balanced attack propelled Mount Vernon into the Class 3A state semifinals as four players recorded nine or more kills in the Mustangs 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17 upset over second-ranked Davenport Assumption.

 

Chelsey Schirm, Ali Platte, and Emma Cochrane all recorded 10 kills while teammate Hannah Whitley added nine. The Mustangs' Marissa Stark added 40 digs with two service aces.

 

Danielle Cabel had 18 kills to pace Davenport Assumption, who ends the year at 28-8.

 

Mount Vernon (28-10)  will face Red Oak or MOC-Floyd Valley at 3:30 p.m. Friday on Court Two.
