3A State Volleyball: Union makes the semifinals


Sam Barz put down 17 kills to lead Union past Sioux Center in a five set, 25-14, 17-25, 25-8, 23-25, 15-13 victory over Sioux Center Thursday afternoon in Class 3A first round play at the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament.


Barz paced the Knights with 17 kills, five aces and four blocks while Payton Hilton knocked down 13 kills with 18 digs.


Jillian Estes led Sioux Center with 12 kills and 11 digs. The Warriors, making their first state tournament appearance since 1999, end the year at 31-7.


Union, 34-7, advances to the Class 3A semifinals for the second-straight year. The Knights face top-ranked Mediapolis Friday 3:30 p.m. on Court One.
