Local music therapists raise awareness

Posted:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

For some people with disabilities, traditional therapies are not effective.

Thursday evening the Western Home in Cedar Falls hosted a seminar to discuss an alternative therapy: music therapy

Local music therapists explained what they do and how they help people to heal their minds through music. Singing and performing music can connect with the brain in ways other treatments do not.

This form of therapy is effective in treating injuries to the brain and also in communicating with children with autism.

Unfortunately, music therapy is rarely covered by insurance.
