5A State Volleyball: City High beats Dowling 3-1

Fourth-ranked Iowa City High spoiled Dowling Catholic's state tournament debut with a 26-24, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22 victory over the Maroons in Class 5A first round action at the Iowa Girls State Volleyball Tournament Wednesday afternoon.

Abby Saehler knocked down 14 kills with six service aces to lead the Little Hawks, who face top-ranked Ankeny in the Class 5A semifinals Friday at noon. Rachel Rinehart added 12 kills while Michaela Nelson added 11 for Iowa City High, who improve to 30-8.

Elise Brown had a match-high 15 kills to lead Dowling Catholic, who end its season at 33-11.
