The City of Cedar Rapids is crediting residents for collecting 1,610 bags of litter from around the city.

Megan Murphy, Communications and Education Coordinator for the City of Cedar Rapids, says the first year of the City Managers' 1-Bag Challenge was very successful, taking 1,610 bags of litter out of the city.

The City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge distributed more than 8,000 litter collection kits this year.

Information about the City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge and other litter collection programs is available at www.CleanUpCR.com.

While winter draws the City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge to a close for the season, residents can collect litter throughout the winter and set the bags out at any time during the year.

Collection kits will be available at City Hall, Cedar Rapids Public Works, Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling and Cedar Rapids Water throughout the year.

The City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge has set a goal of 3,000 bags of litter in 2013.
